We watched this documentary in my Documentary Cinema class. At first, it seems fine, but after analyzing it more closely, you realize that the entire “documentary” was staged.

First, the Inuit people were neither savage nor ignorant. Second, by that time they were already hunting with modern firearms, yet the film portrays them hunting in a very primitive way, which was already outdated for that period.

Even though this is considered one of the pioneering documentaries in film history, it tells a story that is largely false and reflects racist stereotypes.
