OF COURSE i will stand by anything kyle mooney makes but i was real annoyed that the 2 best characters died so early. and one of them didnt even get a good death. i rly want to know the thought behind that. other than that i loved it and my mom got the references i didnt. 8/10

I should normally not give my review on this movie since I didn’t finish it. Like, I didn’t watch more than 1/3 of it :,)
I’m just a little too scared to watch it 😭
But what I watched yet was good :)

Y2K was one of those movies that was so dumb… it kind of worked? 🌝
But honestly, I think my disappointment mostly came from how it was marketed. I went in expecting a horror movie with a touch of comedy — something darkly funny or satirical. Instead, what I got was a full-on comedy with blood splatter. It leaned way more into absurdity than suspense, which threw me off.
There are a lot of corny moments — and I mean a lot. One line that really stuck with me (for better or worse) was from Rachel Zegler’s character: “Those losers are my friends.” It was so cringe that I couldn’t tell if it was meant to be a joke or if Kyle Mooney, the director, actually thought that was solid dialogue. Part of me wants to believe it was intentional, playing into that early-2000s campy teen energy — but another part of me suspects it wasn’t that deep.
And then there were these strangely serious moments that felt completely out of place. Danny’s death, for example, was unexpectedly emotional. I’ll admit it got to me a little — but it also felt like it belonged in a different film entirely. It was as if the movie almost wanted to be something deeper at one point, then changed course and went full-on chaotic teen apocalypse comedy.
Overall, it was… meh. Mostly due to the mismatch between what I expected and what I got: a corny teen disaster flick full of tired punchlines, clunky dialogue, and oddly timed emotional beats. I wouldn’t rewatch it, but if you’re into over-the-top teen comedies with a nostalgic twist and don’t mind some tonal confusion, you might actually have a good time.
