I want to give this a higher rating, but I think the ending hurt it more than helped it.

Such mixed feelings. As a remake, it is a better film than the original. And so well acted. No fault to the performers. But completely tone deaf to the current era. And perhaps dangerous, since the radical redneck becomes the hero. Frightening for the wrong reasons.

Yorgos’ most accessible film to date because it’s not written by him (more grounded and overtly funny); a sharp satire on topical issues of class relations and political extremists. Excellent performances from everyone, even the unknown guy Aiden Delbis.

Every director should find a muse! And every remake should find its own way of telling the story. Mixing highly realistic gore with absurdity really tickles something in my brain.
