Very silly comedy with an absolutely stacked cast and legendary director. It’s not really my cup of tea with comedy but it’s still alright. John Williams’ score is incredible as always and it’s definitely an interesting directorial effort for Spielberg. Definitely too long

I know this is not a fan favorite of most but it’s one of mine. It was one of my greatest memories with my father. It is now a movie I share with my kids every Christmas Eve.

Perhaps, no - definitely the strangest piece of film in Spielberg’s filmography.

It’s almost like someone accused him of being boring, took it personally and went straight to a slapstick comedy. Most of the jokes work in fairness, albeit some of it being a bit outdated. The issue is, all of the film feels like the set-up for the next joke, and as a result the narrative gets lost in the attempt. It was all pretty hard to follow, a plethora of characters without any substance to them, thrown in this play pit of a story with too much overlap and cutting back and forth between them all.

I can’t say anyone especially stood out to me on the acting front, like I said - it was all incredibly mishmash, but you can tell the entire cast understood the assignment and trusted their captain wholeheartedly - even if it didn’t exactly pay off.

Not a complete waste of time, some great miniatures work in the 3rd act and the Jaws gag at the beginning was really quite funny.
