i liked this a lot more than i would have thought. it was SO well shot and the score was very good. the characters aren’t perfect but that’s about all i can complain about. i love the location and im usually not a gorehound but it was a perfect level. 7.5/10

Wolf Creek
Rating: 6.2/10
Wolf Creek is a brutally effective and masterfully crafted survival horror film that's not for the faint of heart. Director Greg McLean creates a patient and terrifyingly realistic nightmare anchored by John Jarratt's iconic performance as the sadistic Mick Taylor.
Highlights
- Masterful Direction: McLean's direction is masterful in its patient build-up of dread, making the sudden shift into brutal horror shocking and effective.
- Terrifying Performance: John Jarratt's performance as Mick Taylor is chillingly believable and charismatic, making him a horror icon.
- Raw Aesthetic: The film's handheld, digital video aesthetic adds a terrifying layer of realism and verisimilitude.
Criticisms
- Grim and Sadistic: The film is an almost unbearably grim and sadistic experience, with a relentless depiction of torture and hopeless survival.
- Underdeveloped Characters: The protagonists are not deeply developed beyond standard "backpacker" archetypes.
- Simple Plot: The plot is incredibly simple, serving primarily as a framework for prolonged sequences of torture and terror.
Verdict
Wolf Creek is a powerful and terrifying piece of filmmaking that's almost impossible to recommend for general viewing due to its extreme sadism and relentlessly bleak tone. Only the most hardened fans of realistic, unflinching survival horror may find it worthwhile.
