Incredible to see the scale of this movie/sets and camera work at such an early time.

I think this was my first ever silent film I’ve seen.

I actually liked it a lot since it kept you looking at your screen to see what they were saying instead of listening to it.

While I think this film isn’t really as appreciated in the big 2026 as it was in 1927 where it was a huge hit and success at the time I still enjoyed seeing what the first best motion picture looked like and where it all sort of began.

Obviously it felt very long and most of the film is just war and more war but I liked the characters and their overall dynamics and relationships with each other a lot.

Overall I’m glad I decided to finally watch this and learn more about what movies were like way back in the 1920s.

Honestly did not love this but I feel like it’s just too outdated to be appreciated in 2026. Im sure it was probably good at the time and groundbreaking when it was released.

I struggled most with the music. It did not match the storyline and seem to fit at all. It was hard to get past that for me.

Very cool though to see where our best picture movies started and how far they’ve come though!

Won the inaugural best picture in 1929 and put the academy on the map. It’s a silent film and the flying sequence is the best part about the movie. It seems so real. I have much respect for this film.

Gotta be the absolute best war film of the 20's

The effect were top tier, music wasn’t! Story was ok, but the scenes and stunts they did gave up for that

The bubble scene nearly ruined it as badly as Nic Cage ruining Longlegs

Great silent era movie. Plane/dogfight scenes are amazing.

A story of love, friendship and sacrifice. Very gripping story with talented actors who were able to portray what life was like in the chaos of WW1. What most impressed me about this film is its use of practical effects and visuals that laid the foundation for movies today.

A bit long and a lot of planes. But it was ok.

The oldest film I’ve ever watched and my first silent film. Also, the first film to win an Oscar for Best Picture. That is the main reason I decided to watch this since the Oscars were a few days ago. This was a lot of fun and not boring like I expected.

For the first Oscars ever, they picked a great film to be the first overall winner! Not the best silent movie ever, but the best that year for sure. Amazing camera and stunt work for such an early film.
