The Roses

This was so much better than I expected! I thought this whole movie was just gonna be arguing and anger and frustration and it really wasnโ€™t that. You got to learn about both of them and see how they both feel and why it got to the point that it did and I appreciate it that.

If the original 1989 film made me reconsider getting married, then this version sealed the deal. Still just as bitter, mean-spirited and resentful, with an extra dash of passive aggression.

The Roses

I was looking forward to this, more so because my dad admitted crying to it in the heat of an argument, and all I have to say to that is the man has problems. The story is brilliant, especially as it delves deeper into the marriage. Unfortunately, a lot of it does fall flat for me. The acting and casting seem monotone and stiff, which is strange as there's more than a fair amount of talent involved. The continuity feels rushed and the editing choppy. That said, the humour works for the most part, and the soundtrack bangs. Also, I enjoyed how dissimilar the narrative is compared to the typical careless working dad/stressed-out homemaker mum/screwed-up rebellious kids.

Bonkers movie. Funny but very sad that their relationship unravels so intensely.

Easily the best film Iโ€™ve seen all year - watched this in cinema and had so much fun.

Not only did this encapsulate dry British humour so incredibly well I genuinely could not predict where the story would go (as someone who was not aware of the older version when I initially watched it).

Colemanโ€™s and Cumberbatchโ€™s banter is so funny it makes this film entirely worthwhile. In fact the entire cast is very strong. I enjoyed the first half more than the second but still a hilarious watch all around.

a chaotic masterpiece! Olivia and Benedict are absolute legends and the supporting cast did their jobs well

I knew from the โ€œclassicโ€ intro it was gonna be good but itโ€™s genuinely so sharp - & they really do hate as much as they love

I really liked Olivia Colman and Benedict โ€œpenguengโ€ Cumberbatch in this, and the story is great - itโ€™s a Like and not a Love, unfortunately, because of Kate McKinnon. I love her, but not in this movie, sorry. Still, well worth watching, what a movie!

I thought I was starting a cute romcom and then it slowly turned into pure chaos and that escalated aggressively :D Also the house is gorgeouuusss yetโ€ฆ the communication skills are nonexistent

I loved it, very funny, great cast, awesome update to the original. Recommended for a fun modernized dark comedy.

This was so flat for me and only the last 20 minutes brought some excitement to the overall story but it left me wanting much much more.

To be honest, I didnโ€™t enjoy it that much. I thought it would be a lot more fighting through throughout the whole film not just last 20 minutes.

9/10 โ€œExcellentโ€, both main characters bounced off each other. Very well casted/Written and directed. Both Colman/Cumberbatch need to do more film together. Priceless, well recommend.
