The Plague
7.7 - I don’t know if it’s a “horror” but it is pretty damn upsetting.
I think anyone who lands in the boring & slow camps probably didn’t experience summer camps or much bullying as a kid. It’s absolutely not one I “like” but it is very well shot, scored, & written. It’s for sure a bit artsy or indie feeling but the intimate take on the horrors of adolescence & bullying is intensely affecting.
For a cast almost exclusively led by children, it’s also remarkably well acted, especially Kayo Martin’s lead bully Jake, who is a pretty perfect amalgam of every key bullying trope without feeling unrealistic. It also could have dug deeper on some themes, but I think the result given is still relatable enough that its points were made.
Overall, it is tense & uncomfortable, & if it could have stuck the landing just a bit more elegantly, it could have been an early surprise contender for one of the year’s best.
Thank goodness I never have to experience this phase first hand again.

The Plague was kinda creepy and had a dark vibe that made it interesting to watch. It’s not super exciting, but the evil kids concept was disturbing and made it feel different from normal horror movies.

The Plague
This wasn’t a horror movie. It was social anxiety with a cinematic budget.

I absolutely loved it! I may be biased bc I know an actor in it but either way I thought I was really creepy and uncomfortable in the best way possible!

amazing sound design, i don’t know if ill ever put a horror/thriller in love just cuz i don’t enjoy the on edge feeling the whole movie but it was really good and Kayo is a great actor. Also don’t know if Im the best at understanding endings without conclusion
