Way too slow and way too long. It teases you with amazing stop motion animation just to cut away and almost never return. The soundtrack was insanely good, especially with the editing and camerawork. The casting and acting was fine, but was the little girl necessary? When will horror stop relying on annoying little girls and creepy old women? It took way too long for the story to actually get anywhere, so an hour in, I ended up turning it off. The concept was unique and interesting, so I'll be waiting on a stop motion horror movie that's actually stop motion.

6.6 - This is absolutely one for the weirdos.
I found it equally creepy & fun. The use of stop motion animation is fantastic & the creatures are beautifully grotesque.
I wish there was a little more clarity on the story. I read a handful of interpretations on the grief & abuse processing storyline - repressed sexual abuse by a male figure ignored by the mother, repressed creative expression from an abusive mother, additional angles of familial abuse - & none of them hit the mark exactly for me. I’m all for ambiguity especially in endings, but I do think with the uniqueness of the medium here, it could have elevated the experience to have a little more direct reflection to a specific sort of trauma. Especially since horror as grief & trauma representation has been the most overplayed horror theme over the last few years. This just didn’t make as powerful of a statement as it could have.

This movie was really slow going but the ending was pretty crazy which saved it for me. All the stop animation stuff is neat to see as well.

Exceedingly creepy and weird, "Stopmotion" will satisfy some moviegoers and will annoy others. Where the film succeeds is within the deep complexities of the story, mixed with truly grotesque imagery. It can be drab at times, but overall, it is a very spooky experience. 7/10

I should have known the only scary thing I’d be seeing was the Shudder logo during the intro..
What a bore fest too btw, the only good parts of this movie were the sprinkles of Stopmotion we’d get in between the most god awfully slow and boring segments — I mean I was actually fighting my eyes from closing for the first 30 minutes
Fumbled what could have been a great and unique horror movie

Intriguing concept and great performance but relatively lackluster story that goes exactly where you think it’s going to go.
The stop motion scenes are really the standout here. I loved the creativity expressed through them. And the sound design makes every gross moment feel very real.
But for me it kind of falls flat overall. It’s creepy and weird and I love that about it, but I think it leans a little too heavily on style and delivers an underdeveloped story.

I liked the animation, but I felt like there was a lot lacking. So many spooky moments got cut short. This felt like it didn't need to be a full movie with how much dead air is in it. I also feel like some of it never got explained. Pretty disappointed.

The stopmotion stuff was really cool and creepy when it needed to be, however I don’t think in this case entertainment and enjoyment can be traded for themes and messaging. Having themes and storytelling in the movie is good and all, but when the movie for the most part is so incredibly boring, it really does take away from the brilliance on display.
My score: 7/10

LATE REVIEW😓
i liked this movie but the build up was too long, i cant even remember what this movie was about after a few days of watching. what i do remember are the stopmotion scenes. i might rewatch it to fully understand the story because it was so silent at the start.

I absolutely loved the idea of this film. The stop motion was creepy and off putting, creating such a fascinating world. Unfortunately the story fell flat and has some poor editing choices. I was honestly quite bored but I can’t stress enough this films potential.

It's very surreal & arty. If that's not your vibe skip this one. I really enjoyed it some moments really felt dream like and the ending was oddly satisfying

Couldn't take my eyes off the screen. Was a little slow and I could predict the plot easily but the cinematography is amazing. Love how they mesh stop motion and real life. I assume it's symbolism for OCD (not an expert tho) which I also like about it.
