Song Sung Blue
Kate Hudson’s performance in Song Sung Blue isn’t just strong, it’s the kind of quietly devastating, fully lived‑in work that absolutely deserves to be in the Oscar conversation.
She dials back any showiness and instead lets the character breathe, building an emotional arc that sneaks up on you. The charm is still there, but it’s laced with fatigue, disappointment, and a very real ache. In tiny details—how she holds a smile a beat too long, how her voice catches on a line you don’t expect—she shows a woman trying to stay afloat while everything she imagined for her life slips away.
The film rests on our belief in her, and she delivers: funny without undercutting the drama, heartbreaking without ever begging for our sympathy. It’s layered, unflashy, and completely essential to why the movie works. This is career‑level work from Hudson, and it more than earns an Oscar nod
As a secondary note, Ella Anderson, was phenomenal as her daughter. She blew me away with the depth of her talent! She’s absolutely going to have a long career!

They can’t catch a break. And they’ve gotta move. They can’t live on the curving street anymore.
