Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City

The story sticks closer to the source material than other Resident Evil movies, but otherwise is a big mess. I felt no attachment for anything this had to offer.

It was honestly the worst interpretation of the resident evil games and books I ever seen. They messed up all of the characters, and I don’t mean the actors. The writing ruined the pacing of the story and the personalities, and chemistry of all characters. .

Horrible representation of the characters in the games. I played 2 or 3 of the games and the characters are nothing like the originals. Putting that aside, on its own it’s a bad horror movie. 3.5/10

As a survival horror fan, a 1998 reboot bringing back the Spencer Mansion and RPD got me to tune in. I like this; jamming the first two games into one rainy night gets messy, but the 90s vibe and Easter eggs kept me smiling.

The Director's Eye (What Worked):
• Amell makes a solid Chris alongside Scodelario’s Claire, and Logue is fun as Chief Irons.
• Pitch-black mansion halls lit only by muzzle flashes nail that claustrophobic PS1 dread.
• The RPD lobby, zombie Dobermanns, and practical Lisa Trevor prosthetics look right off the console.
• Roberts leans into a siege vibe while Korven’s synth score sets a retro mood.

The Friction (What Didn't Click for Me):
• Smashing RE1 and RE2 into one night stretches the budget and rushes Birkin’s mutation.
• Writing Leon S. Kennedy as a clueless rookie feels way off for game fans.

The Verdict:
I like it. Watch for PS1 Easter eggs and 90s horror vibes. Skip if comic-relief Leon bugs you.

I would say If you like the OG series (especially the later films) then you’ll love this.
Fun watch with some decent horror and action scenes but nothing too over the top like the first. More realistic dialogue and character reactions to the scenes at hand
