Boring, too long. Overrated to hell and back. Pointless. Action scenes did NOT put LOTR to shame like that retard reviewer said. Characters were ass other than Kurogane. Crazy lady was hot. Blood scene was cool. Visually it was fine i guess.

Not worth it. Watch Ikiru/7 samurai

First time I watched this was in my high school’s senior year english class; This is the second time im seeing it
The imagery is iconic, performances are spectacular, and it’s great to watch, but it’s not something I see myself wanting to revisit again

Man is born crying; when he's cried enough, he dies.

Ran is an absolute masterpiece of a film (as expected by literally everyone) it’s got one of if not the greatest battle scene of all time, shit made lord of the rings look like Monty python.

The first act is an absolute perfect hour, its whole build up and brutal showing of war, while building character development really shine, i love the idea that the reason there’s no sound but battle music is because you don’t hear the shot that kills you, and you won’t get to hear you’re loved one’s last words.

The second act is a bit of a let down as the story doesn’t really go anywhere, the whole part about the blind Buddhist guy didn’t make me feel bad for him, and more dislike for Hideotora, because well let’s be honest, he was a bit of an asshole.

The third and final act is a mix of the two, it has the tragedy, the action, and a bit of poor pacing, Ran works incredibly well with the classic William Shakespeare tragedy twist (450 years outside the spoiler window), the action scene while feeling less brutal than the first still works incredibly well, and finally the slow burn style doesn’t work as well as it should, mind you it never gets boring, just a bit slow.

Plot 10/10 (it’s Shakespeare the fuck where you thinking I’d rate it?)

Soundtrack/Score 9/10 (nothing that standouts but sounds amazing)

Acting 8.5/10 (great but I watched the English dub so not really a fair rating)

Cinematography 11/10 (one of if not the greatest cinematography I ever did see)

Character Development 8.8/10 (forgot names here and there but did feel something when some of them (minor spoilers) died)

Writing 10/10 (phenomenal mix between poetic dialogue and natural narrative dialogue)

Ending 9.2/10 (one of those look it up and you’ll love it)

Direction 10/10 (Kurosawa is a master at what he does, he holds a shot just long enough to be beautiful but not boring)

Overall 9.5/10

Another complete masterpiece by Akira Kurosawa, this man honestly there are no words to fully describe his work, Ran is regret, honor, betrayal, madness and love, it's everything that a father should've said but couldn't, everything humans should be careful in life!

“Only the birds and the beasts live in solitude”
Beautiful shots and score, heavily inspired by king Lear it was very theatrical. Enjoyed the action scenes as well as lady kaede she was crazy. However felt too long, and unintentionally funny at times. First Kurosawa film🏯
