Only Yesterday

Isao Takahata absolutely cooked with this movie this rly is the most grounded Ghibli film and just feels so raw and authentic. The family drama moments just feel so real. I love when ghibli does realistic movies cause they stand out so much in the best way

Okay listen, the movie was good and all but the main characters grown up design just freaked me out. It made me so uncomfortable to watch and sometimes I got kinda pissed cause she wouldn't stop talking about herself. Love the young version of her and her childhood flashbacks tho

after watching Ocean waves a while ago, this is a huge improvement. very similar to the story, but from the POV of a female and definitely does it better in my opinion.

Hit me with a pang of reality, every scene so nostalgic it feels like home. It’s a light movie that everyone should watch at least once. The gap between yesterday and today is long, you can do whatever you want and never regret about it.

Such a comfortable film while also tackling/showing serious issues. Animation style was cool and mixed with the setting gives such a familiar tone. Characters are cool, the dads a prick, taeko is a cool character in both points in time, it was fun to watch, not really else much to say.
