my fav thing is the fact that most of it was practical effects, like the makeup and outfits; that’s always super cool to me and has a different feel from cgi stuff

Gothic, weird, and richly imaginative. It’s definitely weird. It’s got that Halloweentown kinda feel but with a more mature & darker atmosphere. Creature effects are top-notch, and the worldbuilding is wonderfully strange.

One of my favorite Clive Barker films. First, David Cronenberg is fantastic as Decker. That mask. His persona. Fantastically creepy. Midian and its monsters are all unique and interesting. It’s a dark faerie tale where the humans are the strange and weird.

The Book by Clive Barker is way better, but my love of 80s/90s horror puts this up as one of my top from that time period.
