Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World Reviews

Very underrated movie. An immersive, intense tale of friendship, hubris and comradely that unfolds throughout a naval adventure. This is a top shelf period piece with excellent acting. 8.5/10

Hvis Russell Crowe havde været kaptajn på Titanic, så var det aldrig sunket.

Simple & immediate premise executed skillfully. Crowe & Bettany are excellent & perfect foils. Awesome sound mix, great visuals, attn. to detail, & valiant story. Epic final battle & themes of courage, ingenuity, and sacrifice - undeniably a shining star in the "dad movie" genre.

Despite being contender for most boring title ever, Master & Commander: The Far Side of the...... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz-- AGH, ahem, what? Oh, yeah, Russell Crowe & Paul Bettany jam together, that's the movie

A brilliant and historically accurate depiction of what it would have been like in that time. This isn’t a typical action film, it’s good telling story and fabulous actors allows a more character driven story than a nonstop action flick. Good journey with brilliant actors. 8.9/10

Deliberate pacing creates rich and lively environments, but leaves little time for memorable characters with such a large ensemble (crew)

Really slow but the last 30 min is sick. Love boat movies. Made me miss the Pirates franchise in its hay day.

It’s been 23 years since its initial release and I finally decided to open my 4K Steelbook and put it on. Was it worth the wait? Not really. Did I enjoy it in the end? Absolutely. It’s a good, tense action thriller. It’s a bit of a slow burn, but it pays off in the end.

Incredible

Underrated. A shame it was outperformed by Pirates of the Caribbean and Lord of the Rings

Very realistic to what life at sea in the early 1800s was like

Yeah, was fire

Ein wirklich interessanter und guter Film über die Seefahrt und Seegefechte, die nach Quellen wohl auch recht akkurat sein sollen.
Schauspielerisch gut gemacht, mit über 2h Laufzeit vielleicht einen Tick zu lang.

Watched this on 4k Blu-ray. Looked and sounded amazing. The movie is brutal and visceral. Directed superbly. Acted well. I look forward to watching again. I have a feeling it’s one that will age well.

My dad made me watch this- bored

Terrificante

Quite an adventure
