Very underrated movie. An immersive, intense tale of friendship, hubris and comradely that unfolds throughout a naval adventure. This is a top shelf period piece with excellent acting. 8.5/10

Simple & immediate premise executed skillfully. Crowe & Bettany are excellent & perfect foils. Awesome sound mix, great visuals, attn. to detail, & valiant story. Epic final battle & themes of courage, ingenuity, and sacrifice - undeniably a shining star in the "dad movie" genre.

A brilliant and historically accurate depiction of what it would have been like in that time. This isn’t a typical action film, it’s good telling story and fabulous actors allows a more character driven story than a nonstop action flick. Good journey with brilliant actors. 8.9/10

It’s been 23 years since its initial release and I finally decided to open my 4K Steelbook and put it on. Was it worth the wait? Not really. Did I enjoy it in the end? Absolutely. It’s a good, tense action thriller. It’s a bit of a slow burn, but it pays off in the end.

Ein wirklich interessanter und guter Film über die Seefahrt und Seegefechte, die nach Quellen wohl auch recht akkurat sein sollen.
Schauspielerisch gut gemacht, mit über 2h Laufzeit vielleicht einen Tick zu lang.

Watched this on 4k Blu-ray. Looked and sounded amazing. The movie is brutal and visceral. Directed superbly. Acted well. I look forward to watching again. I have a feeling it’s one that will age well.
