Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World

Very underrated movie. An immersive, intense tale of friendship, hubris and comradely that unfolds throughout a naval adventure. This is a top shelf period piece with excellent acting. 8.5/10

Simple & immediate premise executed skillfully. Crowe & Bettany are excellent & perfect foils. Awesome sound mix, great visuals, attn. to detail, & valiant story. Epic final battle & themes of courage, ingenuity, and sacrifice - undeniably a shining star in the "dad movie" genre.

It’s been 23 years since its initial release and I finally decided to open my 4K Steelbook and put it on. Was it worth the wait? Not really. Did I enjoy it in the end? Absolutely. It’s a good, tense action thriller. It’s a bit of a slow burn, but it pays off in the end.
