Alright, you want my take?
This is the best film out of 2025.
Yes I preferred this over one battle after another, you can see my review for it, it’s glowing.
But this, this means everything.
The performances direct the film, but Chloe Zhao’s directing still takes a huge spotlight.
For me, this should be an Oscar sweep, but it’s not going to be the case, and it’s fine, this film will survive history as one of the best depictions of Shakespeare’s work and life.
Everything about this is perfect.

FIRST MOVIE TO MAKE ME CRY IN A LONG WHILE!!
don’t go to this movie if you’re heartless (or do it might make you feel something.)
i want to sit and give a round of applause to the cast, the directors, the writers, producers, etc etc as this movie was truly beautiful. if showed the nitty gritty life of a man (one we all know but never really knew) and how he put that into his work. how being a mother, a father, a guardian should be put above all other things because LIFE IS SHORT!! it’s really fucking short.
this movie is a tragedy, a beautiful outstanding movie.

7.8 - A second watch was completely unnecessary.
I didn’t gain anything more from a second viewing (a little bit the opposite). I have understanding for those that call it emotionally manipulative, but for me since this is based in truth, the story is pretty much the story, so I’m unbothered by that. My issue is more how this pulls out the story to the lengths it does.
The acting still carries. Jessie Buckley’s screams still have me goosebumps. And I still think Paul Mescal is an underrated piece to the breadth of the emotions coming through. I think there are elements to the writing that carry through as beautiful threads when completed. It just feels could have been edited a little cleaner, a little shorter, & potentially been more, or at least as, powerful.
It’s more definitionally Oscar bait than a lot of this year’s top contenders, but I still enjoyed it enough. For sure don’t need to see it again though.
