Teeth and guns are really important when it comes to canned goods.

The story telling and evolution kept you engaged and on your toes. Cast was LOADED and it showed. A one of a kind story and I’m glad I know it now. 8.3/10

Island survival based on true accounts. Lot of star power here yet Ana De Armas as the baroness really stood out. Slower paced film but shows the reality of living off grid. The film showed a class system between the groups very well. With the Wittmers at the top of course.

I thought that there was a lot more action in there but it wasn’t .. i mean you can watch it but i don’t really recommend it though 😏

6.8 - The cast & the setting are beautiful, but sadly that’s not quite enough to make a great movie.

The story here is fascinating. How nine people, each from very different backgrounds, with extremely different motives, each behave & interact against the backdrop of a dangerous & inhospitable setting (while the world they left waged war after war) makes for a great true* story.

But the direction falls flat. I’m hot & cold on Ron Howard in general. I love some of his work, but a lot just doesn’t do it for me. This is the latter. First, the muted color pallet did a disservice to the gorgeous islands. And then each character’s interaction & their web of rivalries & the dangers they faced both from each other & their surroundings rarely scratched deeper than the surface. I think this could have been stronger by casting a less wide net, & delving into each camp deeper, maybe from alternating perspectives.

Ana de Armas is fantastically unhinged, arguably giving her best performance yet. Vanessa Kirby, Jude Law, & Daniel Brühl all turn in strong performances as well. And Sydney Sweeney, though struggling with her accent a bit & not giving as ranged of a performance as I would hope for her character in this story, held her own as well.

Ultimately there’s a lot to like, & I would recommend it as a streaming watch to any history or survival story fans, but it’s not quite as great as it could be.

Slow paced but really grips you at multiple points. Powerful performances by a stellar cast. The one upping, scheming and the fact that it is based in true accounts can push you to watch this survival thriller-drama

Great film about real story. Intriguing and interesting.

Very much like the menu because of all the layers and themes that pop up during the film. I didn’t believe it was based off a true story until the end where they gave everyone’s future storylines. A very good watch

Definitely on the odder side, but really interesting true story, overall really liked it and pleasantly surprised.

I’m stunned how little attention this film got before quietly making its way to stream. Can’t sleep on Ron Howard or this all star cast. The story is tense and harrowing, the interactions of personalities and motives are gripping, and the payoffs are ridiculously satisfying.

Howard got the best out of everyone involved. Well shot, but the grade was boring. Wasn’t particularly “thrilling”, the script was very weak and predictable.
