Death of a Unicorn
I wanted to like this, especially for its metaphors on exploitation, grief, greed and morality. The unicorns too, of course. Unfortunately, it got almost repetitive and somehow bland the more it went on. Each character/cast is a realistic stereotype, and I loved them all as well as the comedy, but the unicorns held all the 'Jurassic Park' level tension. However, I did need more lore because the more screentime the stiff-scripted, capitalistic humans got, the more my anticipation wore off. Also, the production could've been more practical too. I liked the designs but grew tired of how artificial they felt.

I had a lot of fun with this movie. Everyone seemed to be having a lot of fun playing their roles. Some cartoonish villains to bring the urban fantasy premise into full swing. Unicorns were wonderful and brutal

Honestly really really REALLY loved this. Loved the social commentary, loved the creativity, it was honestly one of my favorite Jenna Ortega performances as well! CGI was very noticeable, but I didn’t mind. Just pure fun, gore, chaos, and shitty characters with great deaths.

Yeah this was a different a24 film, Jenna Ortega was ok in her role. Idk A24s obsession of vapes 🤣🤣. Will poulter was funny in this. The story was kinda predictable and I felt a little bored. The unicorns didn’t look great like the CG and the design.
Solid 5/10

I can understand why people don’t like this film. But the themes and ideas resonated with me so deeply that I overlooked the style of the film that I don’t usually enjoy. The type of humor that I like to call, marvel-esq or superhero movie humor. It’s not for me. I wasn’t a fan of how hyperbolic they made the characters of the wealthy family. Although I get why they made it more lighthearted and goofy on the surface. Overall it was a fun film.
It did have some predictability like the good people will survive and the villains will die which I’m fine with. That doesn’t usually happen in real life so it’s nice to get that satisfaction in film. I loved how gruesome and merciless the unicorns were with anybody who wanted to use and kill them for profit.
I’m trying to find a way to keep this from being too long. All I want to say is there’s themes in the film that I have been contemplating and discussing a lot in my life. Greed, power, selfishness, bending morals in claims of doing good for the masses and, on a more personal level, prioritizing career above family has always deeply, deeply, deeply bothered me to my core. Now, I know there are many films that touch on these themes but there something fun and different about how they focused it around unicorns. There’s one last theme they touched on and it comes in when Jenna Ortega’s character is explaining what the unicorn showed her. In my own thoughts and discussions I’ve had over the years I’ve thought, “what happens when we figure out what all ‘this’ is? Will anything change? Will life be different? Maybe we should be more comfortable in the unknown and let the river flow where it flows. We are too focused on finding the answers that we are missing out on living”
I don’t even know if the film was meant to be this deep and no I didn’t even watch it high 😂

it was… okay, i did enjoy some parts of it
for being a comedy, it wasn’t all that funny but will poulter BY FAR did the best job, i laughed the most at his jokes
i wanted to appreciate the commentary about rich people and greed but it was really simple and too on the nose for me

Just watched Death of a Unicorn, and honestly, Will Poulter carried. Best character in the whole cast. Classic cold dad, dead mom, and an emo daughter who’s mad at the world.
Some moments cracked me up though. “When I touched the horn…” 😂
My Little Pony ain’t taken no 💩
That unicorn colt got killed multiple times, and people are like, “Why are they mad at us?” Uh…
I wanted it to be way darker and way more mystical lol.
Classic f the elite energy.

Will Poulter constantly scheming to snort, smoke, or drink unicorn horn dust, slipping it in whenever and however he could, was hands down the best part of the movie.

Underrated in every sense of the word! Great movie.
I didn’t expect to like this movie this much, I absolutely adored the premise, it’s very nice seeing mythology mixed with horror.
Movie also had a great cast, setting, and story.
Was pretty funny as well.

This did not work for me. The entire point of the movie is the unicorns but I’m just not convinced. The mythology wasn’t particularly interesting or compelling and the characters are funny but also very annoying. All of them. And I get that they’re SUPPOSED to be annoying…but it just doesn’t work for me.

I think the biggest problem I have with this film are the tonal imbalances. I wasn’t sure how I should feel throughout my whole watch. There is some peak comedy and gore sprinkled throughput though.
