Captain America

this and punisher 1989 ended up being my favorite pre-mcu marvel movies. how 😭


not only is it so cool to see captain america before the mcu since those are the only marvel movies i’d seen before I did this binge of old marvel, this movie is just so funny. unintentionally mostly, but intentionally too.

some things that worked for me:
I like the score overall more than first avenger which is probably my favorite thing about that movie before the last 30 minutes or so. catching the president after he jumps off of the building was such a good way to show his strength. cap using an entire table as his shield by just running at the woman shooting at him and smacking her with it was cool too. I for some reason did really like the boy that cap saved actually being the president. it was really badly executed but an idea was there. also him using “i’m gonna be sick stop the car” TWICE just to steal their car and leave them in the middle of nowhere is just fantastic and hilarious for CAPTAIN AMERICA to do 😭 this movie is peak

ALSO has the funniest quote from any old marvel and i’m still not sure if it was meant to be taken seriously;

“It's bad medicine... and nobody said the medicine was going to taste any good. But can we afford not to take it? I don't think so. If we don't take this medicine now, we'll all die. Slowly... but we'll die. Thank you." it’s partly the writing but the delivery is great too.

obviously, compared to tws and civil war, or any other mcu movie with a cap appearance, this is laughable. but that makes it work even more for me.

So bad it’s good. This is not a good film by any stretch, but it serves as an interesting time capsule into what a superhero movie was way before it became over saturated. Acting is bad, jump cuts galore, a dated early 90s score, and just all kinds of cheesy goodness.
