This series is old school detective drama, the different story lines and how they mix make it great. Probably doesn’t get the love it deserves since its mostly in Japanese with subs.

Honestly was a miss for me, relied on the neo-noir tropes too much. Also didn’t wrap up any of the season’s issues without renewal for a second season?? The soundtrack was bomb tho

Had been sitting on this show for a while. Honestly, loved every moment of it. 2 seasons was perfect, time for the show to breathe while also not dragging on endlessly. 9/10

my god. where do i start. what a hell of a show.

takes you on a journey into the world of the most powerful & deadly japanese criminal organizations. the yakuza.

i just can’t describe how spectacular the story is.

can’t ask for anything better.

the character development is phenomenal.

especially sato. wow. god idk why i absolutely loved sato. his determination, his falls, his redemptions, how he cared deeply for his oyabun. the best character in the entire show imo.

cinematography, camera work, focus pulling, color pallet, sound design, are all astounding. could haven not looked better visually. so beautifully shot.

crazy part is i started this show right before flying to tokyo for the first time & god how much i love & respect japanese culture.

haven’t checked if there’s going to be a szn iii. i pray there will be. it’s just incredible.

if you love japan, crime, drama, thriller… i could not recommend a show more than this. it’s just so well written, shot, produced, directed.

only thing that bothered me truly… was watching to gay guys fuck. that pissed me off. if it weren’t for that. it would be perfect. not homophobic. but come on. no one wants to see that shit.

loved it tho. still an incredible show.

Will go down in history as one of the best series out there.
I’m so sad there were only two seasons.

A gorgeous police thriller that, unlike other similar ones, shows you a very good - unknown side of Japanese mentality and life.
It's worth watching without a second thought.

One of the best HBO original series of all time! If you love everything Mafia, or in this case Yakuza, give it a watch….great old school detective vibe as well, based on a true story.

Two solid seasons. A familiar police and journalist covering crime story, but through the very unfamiliar lens of Japanese culture and the Yakuza criminal syndicates.

Excellent crime and investigation show with fantastic characters and an amazing pace that blends drama with realism.

Great show. Sad it ended after only a couple seasons.
