Lord of the Flies

I’m only giving this a like because the kid actors did an amazing job.

The lens choice made for a dizzying and uncomfortable watch. I’ve read the book and seen the movies, I hate the story, it’s cruel. So, Idk why I watched this one. BRB, gonna hug my kiddos.

the cinematography was beautiful. the children actors were absolutely AMAZING with their roles. however trying to add sympathetic factors for jack really dulled the savagery of his character with this rendition. also the random “queer” plot between simon and jack was ???? idk man

I’ve read the book and seen all versions of movies multiple times, so I won’t be focusing on the story for this review. Go read the book and watch the other adaptions if you haven’t.

I couldn’t be less of a fan of the way they filmed this mini series. The children however, did a fantastic job bringing their characters to life. I loved the masks and makeup for the choir boys in the final episode. I interpreted all of the “red lens/filtered” moments as representing death. Overall, I loved being able to watch another adaptation of such an incredible book, but this one didn’t quite hit the mark for me because of the way they chose to film out scenes. 6/10. Would not rewatch. If you have a kid in high school that reads the book, this would probably be the best adaption for them to watch as it’s not as brutal as the movies.
