i hope jodi and ruby are miserable and painfully guilty the rest of their lives, i cannot believe how crazy this is, i hope all 6 kids are the best they could be now. also, i understand kevin was brainwashed but for him to feel the way he feels in the interviewing is kinda crazy

so good. literally heartbreaking. i've never felt so distraught for a family i don't know, even from online. people blaming kevin are crazy - he was brainwashed in a religious manner. the people to blame are ruby & jodi and i hope they rot in jail. 30 years is too little.

the dad playing the hopelessly romantic victim makes me wanna bash my skull into a wall every single adult in this show had an opportunity and DIDN'T TAKE IT and is now complicit

ruby is vile and i think kevin was just as bad for tolerating her behaviour all those years

Wow, this is absolutely unbelievable… Maybe this is why I personally don’t believe in organized religion… There’s just some evil people in this world that will manipulate and do anything that they want to get what they want… So sad for these kids😢

6.5 - honestly, these types of docs aren’t really my thing because unlike fictional stories or even dramatizations of real stories with similar subjects, these victims are real. It’s heartbreaking, it’s disgusting, and unfortunately it leaves little impression in the way of action.

Shout out Shari for committing her career to fighting family vlogging. I have my own skepticisms and dislike for anyone that uses their children as any sort of pawn or tool for personal gain, whether monetary or other - especially as a (foster) parent, myself. Glad at least some justice is being served.

Otherwise, it’s decently enough made. The strength is in the story. It slightly over relies on stock footage & zoom ins on basic tech functions as filler. But the story is absolutely more than enough to hook in.

P.S. I don’t want to go deep on it but I’m seeing too much hate for Kevin. Yes, he has culpability. And he owned up to his part repeatedly. But just because it seems some are misinterpreting his final statements, it’s being forgotten that he was abused too - differently than the kids but still abused. He said he still has love for his wife. I think he means the wife he knew & fell in love with. The wife that gave him 6 kids & many good years. Not the monster that we see by the end - that’s not his wife he is talking about. That’s why he is divorcing her. And why he is, by the end of the doc, & just by participating openly in the doc, doing what he can to help his kids.

I feel like they should’ve waited to make this until all the younger siblings were grown up because I felt like we were missing a lot of the most significant parts of the story. There should’ve been more focus on the violent abuse rather than the minor emotional trauma.

I was really glad they made a docu series on this so I could get a pretty full story. I would have given it a thumbs up if it wasn’t for the way they portrayed the dad. They made it seem like he was 100% innocent when that was most definitely not the case.

this was so sad to watch, like what those two women did was terrible and rhey desvere to rot for the rest of their lives. also that dad should’ve gotten his shit together

totally crazy seeing this now when i used to watch them when they were in their prime and to see everything that was happening behind the scenes. totally disheartening to watch

This documentary was so sad. I hated seeing only a little bit of how those poor children were treated. The fact that this happened without many knowing is so sad and i’m glad Ruby and Jodi are getting what they deserve in prison.

fame and extreme faith create a space for control and abuse, unfortunately that is clearly demonstrated in this family and i’m heartbroken for the kids 7/10

Generally a god doc, but the amount of grace shown for the dad and other adult who did NOTHING for the kids leave me with a bad taste in my mouth.
