You Hurt My Feelings
5.5 - this *should be* my jam - quaint, mumblecore, slice of life dramedy, but it didn’t fully connect. I think I’m in a different place personally than the characters & have a different view on relationship honesty/anxiety. Acting is fantastic. For someone, just not me - yet.

You Hurt My Feelings
Rating: 7.3/10
"You Hurt My Feelings" is a sharp, witty comedy of manners that explores the complexities of long-term relationships and creative insecurity. Nicole Holofcener's direction and Julia Louis-Dreyfus's lead performance make this film a standout.
Highlights
- Brilliant Screenplay: The film's dialogue is sharp, naturalistic, and consistently funny, spinning a relatable premise into a hilarious examination of relationships.
- Fantastic Cast: Julia Louis-Dreyfus shines as Beth, balancing comedic timing with raw vulnerability, while Tobias Menzies is excellent as her loving but untruthful husband, Don.
- Character-Driven Storytelling: Holofcener's direction is refreshingly grounded, focusing on character development and everyday anxieties.
Criticisms
- Low Stakes: The film's stakes are intentionally low, focusing on privileged professional anxieties, which might make it hard for some viewers to connect.
- Limited Appeal: The central conflict might be too minor or unrelatable for viewers seeking more plot-driven films.
Verdict
