9.2 - Ansolutely gripping. Both suspenseful & sincere. The pace is excellent, & you can really feel the effects of the setting on the story. Lastly, Lawrence is captivating. This launched her career & may be my favorite performance of hers. Will definitely be coming back to this.

probably one of the most depressing things i’ve seen, but also really good

I liked it! Very different and slower paced from my usual taste but it definitely achieved what it set out to do and had genuine heartfelt moments. :)

Barely interesting. First half is so boring I nearly just turned it off but it kinda redeems itself in the second half

Interesting movie, my grandpa is one of the guitar players in the music scene so that was pretty cool to see.

Great movie. Bleak, haunting, Lawrence’s breakout role and I’d love to see more of this side of her 14 years later!

As someone who grew up around the same area, I can’t even describe how accurate the setting was.
Outside of that, this movie was incredible. Although the plot moves slowly, the characters are so intriguing you’ll never be bored. It’s suspenseful, dark, and wonderful.

Slow going and never picks up pace. The only positive is highlighting the great struggles that some people face in certain parts of America
