William Tell

I want to give this a higher rating but two things are keeping it low. The runtime is far too long, 30 minutes in, and the pace and story got entirely predictable and I lost interest. If you like stage plays or period pieces then I'd give it a chance because the production and attention to detail is outstanding. I wasn't expecting it to be so stylistically well-crafted. Unfortunately, the majority of the actors feel miscast so there's no reason enough for me to give this a rewatch.

Pretty good movie, nice to watch. Love the crossbow. Kinda slow but good story

Rating: 5.5/10 ⭐️

I hoped for a sweeping epic, but the uneven tone and rushed pacing left me underwhelmed.

What Worked:
Ramsay’s cinematography is stunning, giving a gorgeous, rugged backdrop. Through my Methodist faith lens, seeing Tell wrestle with his past to righteously defend his family resonated deeply with my values on the sanctity of life. Also, the iconic apple-shooting sequence is brilliantly staged…Bang totally sells a father’s terrifying desperation.

The Cuts:
Juggling too many nobles and subplots made the momentum stall out; the movie just spun its wheels explaining who hates who. Swindells as Gessler is way too cartoonishly evil for a gritty drama. Keeping it spoiler-free, the third act feels super rushed and anti-climactic, making the emotional payoff fall flat.

Verdict:
Visually beautiful but messy. Okay for the landscapes, but skip if you want a tight rebellion story.

Favorite Line: “I would have struck you down.”
