The only Hitchcock film that has ever left me feeling bored and unmoved. As a diehard Jimmy Stewart fan I was disappointed. The male gaze can die.

Wow… I’ve never seen a film so beautiful in my life. Despite Hitchcock having a shameful gaze on women, this was something that the audience was not ready to see at the time of release. I can say that this film is the greatest film I’ve ever watched and I will watch again. 10/10

It’s doubtful that Vertigo can take equal rank with the best of the Hitchcock studies, it has too many holes, but it assays high in visual confectionary of place, person and celluloid wiles.

Nope. It was weird because that man stalked her, took her clothes off when she was passed out, and was so random at the ending.

I was such a bad high school student: Literally over 4 years ago we played this Bernard Herrmann suite in symphony and I never bothered to watch the movie (until now) or even learn the plot. Whoops. But in my defense the plot is very confusing. Epic soundtrack though.

I really loved the style of this film more than anything else, brilliant for it being like damn near 70 years old - tbh my biggest gripe is that I just didn’t feel the tension as much as I thought I would during this but I can absolutely respect the weight that this film carries as a classic and staple of the horror genre - sort of the OG psychological thriller and you can see alot of its influence in other pieces of media (I think Spider Noir is based heavily on this vibe and these characters)

This film is a clear example of why obsession can become dangerous and destructive. The cinematography and visual sequences were absolutely stunning, with incredible use of composition and atmosphere. The narrative was intriguing and kept me constantly in suspense, especially with the mystery surrounding Madeleine, until she reappears in John’s life under the name of Julie.
I honestly expected John to recognize and appreciate everything Midge did for him while he was in the psychiatric hospital. I thought that after healing, he would finally let go of his obsession with Madeleine and choose someone who truly cared about him. However, that never happened. John remained trapped in his unhealthy fixation with Madeleine, unable to separate reality from his idealized version of her.
When he finds Julie, they spend a few days together, but instead of accepting her for who she is, John tries to transform her into Madeleine. The moment he recreates his past obsession and discovers the truth, everything falls apart. Julie’s fate becomes tragically similar to Madeleine’s.
The ending was extremely disappointing. After such a beautifully crafted and suspenseful story, I was expecting a more satisfying conclusion.
