I wanted to see where the vampire-werewolf beef started. I like this; it’s a gritty origin story giving the werewolves tragic depth.

What Worked:
• Sheen goes all in as Lucian with a raw energy I totally dug.
• Nighy is delightfully arrogant as Viktor, a villain you love to hate.
• Seeing the actual origin of the war gave the franchise emotional weight.

The Friction:
• Not having Beckinsale front and center felt weird to me.
• The heavy blue-gray filter washed out visuals and muddied the fights.
• The romance between Lucian and Sonja felt kinda rushed.

Verdict:
I like this. Watch for a gritty backstory. Skip if blue-tinted visuals annoy you.

I really liked seeing the story behind how the war between vampires and lycans started and overall just liked seeing some more of the backstory.

The first movies are of course the best but I think this one was also a really good prequel and now I only have 2 more movies left to watch and then I’m finally finished with the whole underworld series.

i think this was very well written and really tragic. we alr know how this story ends bc of the first movie, but watching the movie with that knowledge just makes it that much more gut wrenching. i actually hate most of the vampires so much throughout the series dude

3/5. Solid backstory but I just find this movie to be unnecessary… was a little boring

I’ve always been on team Lycans. A solid backstory with tragic romance & brutal rebellion. Lucian’s origin gives the war more meaning. It’s grim but necessary, & Michael Sheen absolutely elevates it. This was my favorite film in the franchise.

This is actually not bad! This prequel stays exceptionally close to the source material and is true to the flashback scenes in the first film. Bill Nighy and Michael Sheen are powerhouses and bring some real emotion into the story.

there is an intimate scene that made me laugh my head off. you’ll know it when you see it. boring movie otherwise. sorry to michael sheen, you’re better than this.

Nice to see the series go full fantasy in olde times but that doesn't quite save it from the two boring leads.
