An unknown man is found dead and a bunch of lonely people try to make it about them…

This INFURIATED me. No one who knew john doe for more than a day or two agreed to even comment. This is entirely about facebook vigilantes trying to make a martyr out of someone who definitely did not deserve or desire the title. I have never been more angry at a documentary.

honestly this made me feel icky. everyone in this film besides the official law enforcement/professional journalist all seem to inflate their importance and connection to this man. just watching this made me feel like i invaded this dead guys privacy. (1/x)

Great doc - though it was wild to see how many people try to redeem an abuser because he was nice to them for a few hours in a forest.

This was a frustrating watch, more about crime junkie internet culture than the John Doe they were trying to identify.

It’s just a sob story for everyone involved. Get off the internet and go live life like godamn. When Christie said “we got him” I wanted to throw my phone. She’s so delusional, you’re a dry cleaner just do that. No need to watch bro just committed suicide.

these women in charge of these Facebook groups need to touch grass. literal definition of “terminally online”.

This was such a good documentary for a kinda “useless” story, I’m glad the guy got found, but they made a martyr out of an abuser, the end song slaps

Very interesting story. Don’t care about the members of the FB groups’ drama

This case illustrates the dual nature of Internet Sleuths. On one hand, they can be invaluable in solving cases. On the other hand, if taken too far, they can severely hinder the investigation.

Very meh. Yes the story is tragic and mysterious but not that interesting. I feel like I didn’t even really find out what happened in the end, just how a bunch of people wanted to solve this crime on their own on the internet.

This one wasn't really for me. While the premise was interesting, the individuals (mainly one, in particular) just weren't likable.

Not as exciting and awe-worthy as you would think. This guy goes missing and nobody in his family knows and people don't know who he is. They don't tell us how he died or any other crucial information about him until the last 15 minutes.

I actually really liked this documentary. It was well put together and kept my attention. I do agree with most of the other reviews I read, though. These Facebook warriors are making the situation about themselves, they glorified an abuser simply because he was kind to some people while hiking, and “nobody was looking for him because he was an asshole”. However, it’s not our position to hide him. We don’t know the full story. We cannot spread hate about somebody who didn’t live to tell their story, or their truth. We don’t know. And that’s okay. 9/10

the ending comments from other hikers annoyed me so much. i find the facebook women very interesting too, but not in the same way as the people in Don't F*** with Cats

I enjoyed this documentary, I thought the pacing was well done, revealing key items throughout, and including red herrings. The story itself was very intriguing and had lots of questions. Unfortunately some of them went unanswered. There were a few people in this that were wildly obnoxious, but what blew my mind is that the ending wasnt that special, no big reveal, but was still very well done, and had a fantastic line. “Nobody was looking for him because he was an asshole”. Overall a solid 7.5/10
