3.6 - I expected this to be horrible, & it was just bad, so I guess that’s a win?
There’s definitely more to the story than the trailer implied, & Danielle Deadwyler holds down her lead role well. But a messy story & an extreme lack of effective scare moments still make it more of a disappointment than worthwhile.
It’s a movie that feels like it thinks it’s much smarter than it is. And it’s really just more bleak than anything else. There’s a decent amount of creepiness early, but so many scenes drag on way too long & the character actions get overly repetitive. Then it starts getting into psychological & reality questions & pretty much fully loses its way. (Never mind that it’s also so darkly lit you can’t see much of the second half clearly.) And then ends up being mostly recycled trauma horror tropes in the end with an ending that wants to be ambiguous & really isn’t.
If you want a short horror for a date night maybe this is the move (at least that was 90% of my crowd), but I think there’s many better options out right now.

In between like and love! It was very sad but I like that it really makes you think and is somewhat (?) ambiguous (imo the ending was made pretty clear but I suppose it could be left up to interpretation). I feel like the low ratings are just bc people didn’t understand it 😭

Seeing the Blumhouse logo gives me anxiety, not for the horror but for the idiocy in nearly every project they produce. I guess it's to keep a younger audience, although I noticed a slight improvement in this. Not so much in the story but the errors, as cliche as they may be. I love the allegories for depression, guilt, and grief, and the directing all around felt trendy yet stylised, especially when it came to messaging. I could catch little plot details and horror references to films like 'Nosferatu'. Unfortunately, I lost interest at the halfway mark due to the overly hyperbolic characterisations and story.

Save your time and money. The movie is nothing like it is portrayed and is one big snooze fest.

I liked that this movie felt so full even though there was only 5 actors. There was many good parts and definitely speaks to certain aspects of grief and suicide. Not everyone will get this movie but those who do will like it.

Semi spoiler?⚠️
Going into this i had zero interest and low expectations for this film. Not only did this surpass all of that, but it hit it out of the ball park with that beautifully crafted ending/plot "twist". So close to a masterpiece....so very VERY close. I was in tears

If you look at the story allegorically from a psychological perspective:
Living with ghosts, grief, fear & mental anguish….
It’s scary as all hell.
Like “keep you up at night fearing it doesn’t happen to you” kind of scary!

“your husband’s not coming home.”
I don’t really know how to feel about this movie.
I watched multiple explanation videos and I understand now but I don’t like the ending if it’s true. there also should definitely be a trigger warning for this cause I was not expecting THAT.

Although a trigger warning would’ve been great, this movie absolutely blew me out of the water. Not often do I have whiplash by horror movies anymore, but damn. This one. Worth a watch and a rewatch.

This movie has a very vague ending but it was pretty good tbh and it has you thinking pretty much leaves you to decide how it ended

just the title of the movie gives it away nothing much more than a strange bitch in the yard.

The suspense was great, and I can see what they were trying to do with her overcoming her depression in the end, but many parts just didn’t make sense

At the beginning of the film, I thought the woman sitting outside was a metaphor for the protagonist's grief and guilt, but then i changed my mind when the rest became a merciless struggle with shadows that left me a bit confused. I liked it, but I'm left with a lot of questions.

Was a good mind thriller. Really good jump scares and decently written story. Nice to have my mind turned on for a thriller and see how things play out as the movie went on. 7.8 out of 10
