The Voices Reviews

Dark comedy that touches on some very serious mental health topics. Good pacing and funny, but also melancholic, tragic, and a little uncomfy to watch. This just shows how much range Ryan Reynolds has 👏

How have I not heard of this movie until I had it recommended to me. This movie was great, it was such a unique take on the horror genre, and a unique take on the general killer plot in a movie. Ryan Reynolds was actually amazing in this movie.

Rating: 6.7/10

The Voices is a unique and unforgettable black comedy that blends quirky humor with grim psychological horror. Ryan Reynolds delivers a phenomenal performance as Jerry, a lonely and disturbed individual with a fractured psyche.

Highlights
- Ryan Reynolds' Performance: Reynolds' performance is versatile and layered, capturing Jerry's cheerful and disturbed personality.
- Bold Direction: Director Marjane Satrapi's visual depiction of Jerry's mental state is brilliant and effective.
- Original Story: The screenplay is wildly original and darkly funny, exploring loneliness and severe mental illness.

Criticisms
- Tonal Whiplash: The film's shifts between comedy and violence are jarring and uncomfortable.
- Meandering Plot: The plot can feel repetitive, particularly in the middle section.
- Unsettling Ending: The musical-number ending is memorable but may not land for everyone.

Verdict
The Voices is a strange and daring film that's a must-see for Reynolds' performance. It's a one-of-a-kind black comedy with cult classic potential, but its jarring tone and disturbing subject matter make it a challenging watch.

Reynolds did a fantastic job.

This movie was very unusual. It was both funny and dark with a interesting story about the two sides of a mentally ill person. And with Ryan Reynolds great performance made this movie spectacular.

This movie was absolutely f*cking insane. Takes a hard left turn and oscillates between sad and hilarious and kinda tense! I loved it, don’t think I could watch it again.

A strangely funny and disturbing depiction of schizophrenia and mental illness. Reynolds brings charm and humor to a complex and layered character. A surreal film with a unique vision that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

amazing performances from Anna kendrick and Ryan Reynolds, very dark and twisted and i absolutely loved it from start to finish great horror/comedy

could not finish it ew ew ew ew

let me just say ryan reynolds has range. this is not at all what i thought it would be. this was silly and dumb and yet touched on very tough topics. i will probably never rewatch this, but i’m glad i saw it. movies was overall good, but not sure how i feel abt the musical ending

yes

It's not often that horror makes me sad, but this is one of those movies. You connect with the cast, and their struggles. You laugh, and then you cry. A good mix of horror, comedy, and genuine emotion.

Ryan Reynolds has Ed Gein-like qualities with a mix of Norman Bates while Anna Kendrick is her usual adorable self. Enjoy!

we get fully thrown into his delusion and it is fantastic to watch unfold.

I never knew this movie existed! . It’s a dark comedy and it was good but Ryan Reynolds in this part is bizarre. I expected it to be funnier than it was bc it was him. You’ll understand when you watch it.

Demasiado gore para mi gusto

😂

3/12/26 intresting rewatch

A ver, la peli ha sido rara y asquerosa por momentos, no me ha gustado tanto y ha habido partes predecibles al principio tenia buena pinta pero desde el bosque ha empezado a decaer.
