Holy Mackerel. I’m never eating again. I always loved the Brother’s Grimm stories growing up and now a movie finally delivers on the very non-Disneyfied version of Cinderella. Easily the best public domain based movie I’ve seen, even though the competition is lackluster

A true horror version of Cinderella. They depicted vanity and obsession in a way that made this “body horror” stand out. Also loved the synth score throughout the film. Don’t watch this if you’re squeamish. 8/10

Really good, but I expected it to be even more grotesque tbh. I love how they referenced both Disney Cinderella and the one we watch on Christmas in Scandinavia. You can really tell a women directed it, which I love. I’d probably give it a 8,6/10 or smth.

One of the best Grimm brother retelling I've seen the body horror really showed that the step sister would do anything to achieve her dream while Cinderella got everything with ease.

Elvira's character is complexed. At first, you see her as kind. She comforts Agnes after the death of her father. She is shy and permissive. Faced with the possibility of having the prince, she falls into obsession. She turns cruel against Agnes and almost even kills her. She undergoes traumatic surgeries to her body - a show of body horror that I have never seen before. I mean, eyelid piercings, close ups to chopped off toes. I wanted to skip but I couldn't force myself to look away.
The dance scene was beautiful. The music and Elvira's transformation, although, she was always beautiful to me. In the end, her obsession made her lose everything, except her sister, which I liked.
Agnes really didn’t do anything wrong. Sure, she was a bit mean in the beginning, but her father had just died. Who could blame her? Then she lost her lover, her father was never buried, and she was forced into servitude. I'm glad she got her happy ending, and although I love Elvira's character, she was acting selfish. Her mother's grooming was the sole cause of this, but she had her part as well.
Alma was my favorite. Standing by her sister despite her warnings going ignored. I can't believe all that mess happened over a prince who isn't even all that. Isak and some of the dukes at the party were 10 times better.

Idk why I expected a bloodbath lol. Hey, at least it got nasty, and the body horror was great. The dark take on Cinderella was cool, and it felt like they sprinkled in a little bit of The Substance and also Pearl.
