Alternating between philosophy and ruthless fighting in the Guadalcanal heights this movie is one of the best war film I've seen IMO

While it shows a great depiction of war and has an all star cast, director Terrance Mallek is too pretentious. His scripts consist of little to no dialogue and takes the idea of “show don’t tell” to heart by relying on stunning visuals over a well told story.

The actual movie ends at about the 2 hour mark. The entire last hour could be cut and it would be the same movie. If it was just the first 2 hours, it would’ve gotten a thumbs up.

The most impressive thing about this film is the absolutely STACKED cast. *Literally* 80% of people who have any lines in this film go on to be extraordinarily famous. It’s crazy. Solid war film too, though long. Some beautiful shots too 🎥

A torment to watch, but truly beautiful.
It clearly portrays the cruelty, injustice and endlessness of war.
Besides eg power games/ survival, the latter is mainly due to the literally ennnnndless duration.
Man, it’s so looooooooooong.., but worth it!

Erikoinen ohjaus ja käsikirjoitus, hyvin lyhyeltä tuntuva juoni. Jotenkin eurooppalainen taide-elokuva kaiken kaikkiaan. Ei juuri yhtään dialogia. Turhankin raskas siinä mielessä. Tykkäsin silti sanomasta ja elokuvan pohdinnasta sekä luonnon elämästä ja kiertokulusta. 8/10

so far up its own arse that it's making out with its own tonsils. far longer than it deserves to be and tedious to endure to the end.

For a cast like this, it would’ve been hard to fumble, yet they kinda did. It was good at points, but for the most part it was very drawn out with some not so great pacing at points.
Decent action sequences, which is all I can really say about this.
