OH MY GOD this is so beautiful. The animation and story are stunning, I have no words to describe this

Watched it a hundred times and it is always so magical and appeasing

This movie, if you remove the fantasy aspect, is a realistic portrayal of life before and even nowadays. Its themes are very evident in the movie, feminism, women restriction, greediness, etc. A good movie overall, the art style can be subjective though.

I am not used to the artstyle at all, but it has a very good meaning behind this movie. So it was pretty great

Honestly this movie was just ok. I really love Kaguyas character but the movie as a whole was kind of confusing? I didnt really understand the moon city people or why she had to return. I also didn’t like the way her father had become at all.

So beautiful but sad 😭 dad really annoyed me though, talk about self-indulgence

Beautiful hand drawn animation

I liked the story a lot and Little Bamboo is charming. But it was really long and I was t sold on the animation style for a feature length.

I like this film,Before watching it I already knew this Japanese legend and I think this adaptation is very well done. Off topic I cried for the final. 😅

My 11th film for my Studio Ghibli class.

This was a tough one whether I was going to put it in “like” or “meh” but in the last 45 minutes I was waiting for the film to be over. It was just too long for what it was.

The story was interesting at first. I really like the commentary on what is expected of a princess and how they should live their lives, and how Princess Kaguya defied that because that’s not the kind of person she was. It was interesting to see the toxicity in the culture of high society. However, at a run time of 2 hours and 20 minutes, i began to get bored.

On the bright side, this film is absolute eye candy. The mixture between water colors and colored pencils is so beautiful and this feels like watching a children’s picture book. I like how Takahata strayed away from the traditional Ghibli style and went for something more experimental.

All in all, the theme is for sure there and expressed well, however, it’s the run time that gets me. I think this is an important film to watch and you’ll love it if you’re a huge Ghibli fan, but I don’t see much “rewatchability”
