My god these poor kids. The scene with Raoul drowning was absolutely brutal but it makes perfect sense with what they’ve gone through. This was a unique take on the aftermath of the holocaust that is often overlooked but was statistically one of the most likely things these kids went through after liberation. Still in camps, still following the orders of strangers with an unknown agenda, still without their families. It breaks my heart.
