The Promised Land

You’re telling me this is directed by the same guy that directed The Dark Tower adaptation?? An excellent 18th century danish period piece with Mads Mikkelsen as a veteran everyday man turned farmer set against the wicked racist rich. Serene cinematography and great score.

Stunning to look at, but brutal to watch. An intriguing story, great acting and a villain so annoying you’ll want to jump into the screen. 8/10 for the potato hustle!

It’s in Danish and German but has good subtitles (I watched on HULU). Acting is great and the story is very cool. Mads is a beast as usual and Amanda Collin was an awesome surprise. The film does a good job at showing farm life and prospecting while diving into powerful themes like family, love, and power.

It is a good length too… not too long not too short. Almost all scenes are great and have significance so there is no lousy bs and pomp. A raw and intense film that would be good for anyone interested in non-Hollywood/international films.
