The Monkey
Tonight I had the opportunity to see this movie 9 days before theatrical release.
Upon seeing it, I can only say 2 things: beyond disappointing and deceiving.
How it deceives:
The trailer sells you this gorey good looking serious horror movie with hits at comedy. What this really was is pure unfunny comedy and lack of good realistic gore.
Why am I disappointed:
The first 30 minutes were alright, with them being kids and I was wishing for it to end so we could get to the present day, it was dark and promising even though it was long unnecessary chunk of the movie. Boy was I wrong, when it gets to them being adults the whole movie is just unserious with little to no reason.
You may answer: “it was meant to be like that”
Well fair, then why make the first 30 minutes of the movie so dark?
Why have the trailer selling a different movie?
Why have serious cinematography in a comedy like this?
This whole piece of dog shit makes no sense.
This is my opinion, I’ll respect everyone else’s but to me this is straight garbage.

7.7 - In the moment, I wasn’t sure how much I was vibing with this, but after a little separation I know that I definitely had fun.
It’s very different than what I’ve seen from Perkins’s other projects, especially his most recent, Longlegs.
Trading in atmospheric & claustrophobic for screwy & absurd dark comedy & splattering gore, it still does deliver some absolutely striking scenes. The kills are many, bloody, & at times insane, & come at you as quickly as they do frequently. I expect a few could be in the “horror kill of the year” conversation when all is said & done.
It’s not a movie to come to for commentary or anything meaningful, as the family storylines are easily undermined by the irreverent humor (which admittedly doesn’t always land), but I do expect this to become a cult classic to grab some friends, some snacks, & some things to “improve” your movie watching experience if that’s your thing, & just enjoy.

this movie is *so* my type of humor 💀 i absolutely loved it
the ridiculous, over the top gory kills and trippy visuals with a story exploring wild family dynamics… it was so entertaining
i didn’t really mind the lack of explanation but i’d love a sequel that goes into the lore

I didn't like 'Longlegs,' but Osgood had a clear chance for redemption. The 'Toy Story' monkey going on a blood-spraying murder spree... and it's based on a King novel? That's anticipation enough. Unfortunately, my satisfaction lasted as briefly as the tension did. The scenes surrounding Maslany and the younger twins were so unbelievably and uncomfortably good. As soon as we got to the older versions, there was a steep decline in continuity and coherence. The cameos were great, but the twins were never identical to me, nor did they look remotely close to Theo. The story is an allegory for generational trauma, but at times it does feel disconnected and overly confusing. Overall, I'd call it forgettable 'fun'.

Probably the worst movie I’ve ever seen. A waste of $60+ (tickets/food), 3 hours (driving/watching), and gas money + vehicle wear. The only amusing or entertaining part the entire time was laughing at my gf laughing because the mom’s name is Lois and she thought of Family Guy.

Kinda disappointed because I heard this was being compared to Final Destination, but there's not really any inventive kills except 1 or 2. The humor only worked like half of the time, and the characters were bland. I guess there's still fun to be had, but not enough for me.

A modern classic goofy horror movie
Final destination meets sandlot with the most absurd dialogue and deaths

It was fun. Story was dumb but you’re not here for that anyway. The deaths were cool. Final destination meets comic book gore. Laughed a lot

This was my most anticipated horror in a while. Completely unserious and random but it is effective and entertaining, not a scary storyline as such but the kills are unique and equally as disgusting. Defo worth a view, but it will leave you questioning wtf you just watched

I genuinely don’t understand what they were trying to do with this movie, it wasn’t even a horror comedy it felt like a bad parody movie. It sucks because it sounded like a good concept but just such bad acting and dialogue :/

Incredibly gory to say the least they may not use it to its full extent of scary because of how comedic and over the top the tone is throughout while it is a great horror movie it lacks in getting you invested in the characters but it’s a good late night watch so who cares 8.9/10

Enjoyable horror comedy. This is the first time I see this type of comedy paired up with horror, it was a breath of fresh air. Some nice kills here and there. It was really weird hearing Theo James with an American accent. Overall fun time.

Anything James wan is involved with has to be somehow good
Literally Final destination but with a monkey, good for a light gory horror comedy

5.75/10?
I don't know how to feel about this is one because I loved the first part of them as kids, the cinematography was spectacular, the gore was good and the dark tone suits it brilliantly. but then when they are adults it is simply horrible
