An absolute masterpiece and a great start to one of the best trilogies of all time. Great performances and beautiful cinematography with an epic story make this a great time.

10.0 - pretty perfect. Story is all time, characters are intro’d well, score is powerful, acting is phenomenal, effects are strong, makeup & costumes flawless. There’s humor & suspense. It never feels as long as it is. Just a masterpiece. Not a single note.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

For 2001, this is an insane level of fantasy. I don't think fantasy in terms of movie-making was ever at this level. The details and camera tricks in nearly every frame are so refreshing, compared to what we had gotten before and get today. It's my first time watching LotR, I gave it a go a while back but got bored 20 minutes in. Then I found out watching the extended version was the problem but now that I've seen it, I disagree, my mood was. The pacing would have been and is difficult with this many characters and type of source material, so I watched it in halves and I'm still flabbergasted, I was sucked in. It plays around with predictability and genre. The mix of unintentional with intentional and using an 'unknown' cast perfectly worthy of the lore. It's no wonder why the fan bases are so loyal.

Doesn’t help I slumped for like an hour of it but honestly over rated. The fact that people argue LOTRs is up there with Star Wars is SPED af. Frodo Baggins sounds like a winey bitch to me. Dwarfs and wizards are sick af tho. Over all entertaining, watching the second now.

I must watch film for any human being. Required viewing. The best example of literature to celluloid ever made. That’s about it. Carry on.

It feels like the trend of my reviews lately has been “I can’t believe I didn’t watch this sooner” - this is a perfect example of that yet again. THIS is how you do an adaptation of a book.

What can you even say about LotR that hasn’t been said already? Every part of the world feels so refined and well-crafted, from the setbuilding to the special effects and costuming to the music that accompanies each scene. Everything is super well acted and you become invested in the characters super quickly.

I did watch the extended version of the movie, so it felt a little long at times. I’m not letting that affect my review at all, however, as anyone watching the “extended version” of a movie should expect a long movie.

One thing that caused a bit of disconnect for me is that, because LotR was so groundbreaking in establishing fantasy tropes as a whole, I honestly found myself looking at some parts of the movie as a little “generic,” but that obviously isn’t fair at all. When these books were being written, these tropes did not exist, so it’s not like it’s copying anything. When it comes down to it, this is a fantasy story executed basically flawlessly, and that’s exactly how it feels when watching. I can’t wait to see the next one.

Naidati kinos ja no kinos vaadata ikka hoopis teine asi. Oli mõnus ja hea ja meeldis ned stark aga minu jaoks ei olnud sellist otsest vaufaktorit ka :( Kohati oli liiga pikk ja viimasel tunnil tahtis silm ikka kinni vajuda. Soundtrack: fire! Tegelased: fire! 8/10, natuke aeglane.

One of my all time favorites. Fellowship perfectly blends adventure, heart, and atmosphere. From the Shire’s warmth to the darkness of Moria, every scene feels iconic. The music, cast, and world building make it pure cinema perfection. A masterpiece.
