Andrew Garfield’s talents are wasted in this slog. Pathetic villains that never instill fear, to the worst camera work since the Jason Bourne sequels. Nothing matters here and the pacing is a joke. More happens offscreen then on and the ending is actually laughable.

Engaging & the acting was very well done. Second half definitely more gripping while the first half was dedicated to thinking and questioning the structures & the hate they bring along with them. Crimes of the rich is suffered by all, Surrender to your rage it will set you free

Unfortunately a bit of drag, pacing is in tatters throughout. Not to mention one of the ugliest films in a hot minute.

CGI is really quite bad, even with buildings in the distance and overhead shots. Paul Greengrass turns the shaky-cam up to 11 - placing the camera in the most bizarre spots and having it follow things as if you were moving your head side to side - making you like a cuck to everything going on. The story itself is an interesting one, albeit not told in the most effective way. Dialogue feels consistently solid and action choreography feels impactful and brutal in all the right ways.

Andrew Garfield does a very good job here, although you’d expect nothing else from him and the standard he sets. Jamie Bell feels underutilised, whilst Cosmo Jarvis and Thomasin McKenzie put in solid supporting performances. Pretty sure it’s the first I’ve seen of Woody Norman - but he impressed me a great deal.

A lot of this feels pretty akin to recent Greengrass efforts so I can’t say I’m surprised. It’s all completely fine, but with this story, this cast, and what I’m sure was a sizeable budget - it should have been a lot more.

The Uprising

The Uprising

Went to go see this film with my partner as it’s more his kind of genre than mine but I honestly really enjoyed it. Andrew’s acting is always phenomenal and the fact that it’s all based on the true story of the peasant revolt of 1381 is brilliant, so in short I really wasn’t sure about this one but it was really good.
