The Electric State Review: A Visually Stunning but Narratively Flawed Adventure
Hey friends! I just watched the highly anticipated 2025 sci-fi action-adventure film, The Electric State, directed by the Russo brothers. Unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to my expectations.
The film boasts an impressive cast, including Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, and Ke Huy Quan, among others. The visual effects are stunning, with a unique blend of retro-futurism and dystopian landscapes.
However, the narrative falls flat. The storytelling feels disjointed, with underdeveloped characters and a convoluted plot. Despite the talented cast, their characters lack depth and motivation.
The pacing is also uneven, with long stretches of exposition that slow down the momentum. The action sequences, while visually impressive, feel overly reliant on CGI.
It's clear that the Russo brothers aimed to create a thought-provoking, visually stunning film. Unfortunately, The Electric State feels like a missed opportunity.
Overall, I'd give The Electric State 5.1/10. While it's a visually impressive film, its narrative flaws hold it back from reaching its full potential.

The russo brothers can make good movies, but when they are tasked with making something family friendly its like a copy paste disney marvel slop fest of quips and gotcha one liners.
I genuinely hated every part of the movie that just couldn’t take it seriously, not every modern movie needs a quipster one liner badass.
Infinity war was fantastic with the way it balanced the humor with the seriousness — how did they lose this balance?
The movie isn’t terrible and visually it’s pretty good for something Netflix churned out but for the love of god can we stop with the marvel quipster bullshit character personalities and dialogue.
Overall it’s fun but just a bit eye-roll inducing with some of the choices and dialogue.

In my opinion, this movie is great. I didn't know the duo of Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown would be so good! Anthony Mackie plays the robot very well jajaja.
I'm an older sister, and this movie hit me hard.

Good movie, fell asleep a couple times but overall had fun. Don’t get the overwhelming hate surrounding it, people are too focused on 320m instead of the movie itself. Just let it be, there are expensive movies all the time that don’t deserve the spotlight, at least this is an original movie and not a remake or another bomb of an MCU movie

After seeing some of the behind-the-scenes production pictures, this went straight onto my watchlist. I waited longer than a year, and to put it simply, I lasted less than an hour of its two-hour runtime. The Russo brothers guarantee quality visuals, but that's where the 'guarantee' ends. The casting feels faker than anything that isn't practical. I don't understand why they took a childish approach. The characters are completely generic, and the exposition is far from electric. I wish they were clearer on what isn't CGI because how did this cost more than an Avengers movie? The only state I was worrying about was my mental one.

Critics shat on this film for no reason. Is it the best script. No. Film score. cheeks.
The character design of the robots. Fire. CGI. Fire.
Good new flick. I’m a sucker for Chris Pratt so he gave some good laughs. I applaud it for being new and not just a remake or sequel

Lost potential... I've always loved Simon Stålenhag art and this dark dystopian vibe. The fact that they made this just another Netflix family friendly bullcrap movie really saddens me. Actually, since I've heard that's it's a Netflix's movie, I've been afraid that it'll be bad.

I really liked the message, especially at the end when the protagonist kind of broke the fourth wall and made it even clearer. I related to it, with the war as Covid or life in general and the Neurocasters as social media. Idk if that was it’s obvious interpretation

They spent all the money just to pay the biggest cast and for high-quality CGI—not a single cent went into the storyline or character development. I only started to feel any emotion from the robot in the final moments.

This movie feels like it could have been good. Everything looked great, but it just fell flat for me. Chris Pratt had some gnarly hair, though.

Definitely reminds me of ready player one in a way. Set in the United states, on an alternate timeline where a large corporation has control over the population and a small group of individuals rally together to take them down. But it definitely set itself apart from other movies

Better than I thought it would be. Didn’t expect this duo to go so good but it did. Very cute with comedic relief sprinkled in

It was pretty good, glad to see a new movie rather than a spinoff, a sequel, or a live action of something that is already made

A bland Sci-Fi Adventure with recycled plot points, robotic dialogue, and a cliche soundtrack that will bore the whole family!
