Matthew and Idris being in a movie like this feels so random idk. I know this is based on a book series but i wish they would’ve explain the lore a bit more and the scope of what Jake could do with his powers. Overall i enjoyed this movie, it met my expectations 👍🏽

Gotta watch the movie after reading these books.

The Dark Tower simultaneously manages to feel too long and also not remotely long enough.

The 90 minutes DRAGS, yet it all feels like such a rush to do everything it wants to do, and in doing so, doing none of it well. I haven’t read the Stephen King books, but I’m sure there’s a lot of lore to this world that simply isn’t explored, or at least not explored very well. Looking at all more broadly, there are very few good adaptations of King novels anyway, so none of this should be surprising.

Despite what the top billing may have you believe, Tom Taylor is the star here. I’ve been a big fan of him since watching BBC’s Doctor Foster when I was much younger, he’s great and unfortunately hasn’t ever taken off in a big way - although he does appear in House of the Dragon more recently. Idris Elba’s charm and charisma is lost here, a tremendous waste of aura. Matthew McConaughey sure seems to be having fun though!

It’s a shame as this is was a blockbuster attempt that LOOKS like a movie. Visual effects are strong, lighting, colour - it all looks great, it’s a shame the core fundamentals let it all go to waste.
