The Amityville Horror
Mostly kept watching because of Ryan Reynolds’s acting as George. I loved watching his slow descent into madness. Not the perfect movie, but I did enjoy how there was more view into the family life than the og. Felt a bit like a comedy when the babysitter came in lmao, 5/10 or so

every single actor struggled in this film. more faithful to the OG than other modern remakes but that’s not saying much. honestly hard to watch at times. 3/10

The Amityville Horror
Amityville Horror consists of every ghost cliché there is. The scariest thing here was the horrible editing. The story is disjointed and rushed. If the best thing about your film is Ryan Reynolds, then it must be pretty unbearable.

they could’ve done better towards the end, the acting in some scenes were not it. not a horrible movie to look at tho. we definitely got some descending to madness action going on here so that’s also a plus, love to see that..yea good movie

The Amityville Horror
Rating: 4.9/10
The 2005 Amityville Horror remake is a loud, obnoxious, and unscary film that trades psychological dread for cheap jump scares. Despite committed performances from Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George, the film is a soulless and forgettable experience.
Highlights
- Committed Performances: Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George deliver believable performances as the terrorized family.
- Polished Visual Style: The film has a slick, high-contrast visual style characteristic of its era.
Criticisms
- Lazy Screenplay: The story is formulaic and predictable, with unnecessary additions that demystify the haunting.
- One-Dimensional Characters: The characters make foolish decisions, and the plot lacks narrative progression or escalating tension.
- Ineffective Direction: The film relies on loud musical stings, quick-cut editing, and generic CGI ghosts, failing to build atmosphere or dread.
Verdict
The Amityville Horror is a pointless and inferior remake that captures none of the chilling ambiguity of its predecessor. It's a loud, dumb, and unscary film that's best avoided in favor of the 1979 original.
