The Amityville Horror

Started off very slow but got creepier as it went. Not super scary in comparison to today’s films but definitely eerie.

The Amityville Horror

Rating: 5.6/10

The Amityville Horror is a classic haunted house film known for its atmospheric mood and iconic score. However, it's let down by a weak, episodic script and slow pacing.

Highlights
- Atmospheric Direction: The film's slow-burn approach creates a palpable sense of dread, amplified by Lalo Schifrin's phenomenal score.
- Strong Performances: James Brolin and Margot Kidder deliver grounded performances as George and Kathy Lutz.
- Cultural Significance: The film is a fascinating time capsule of 1970s horror, with iconic imagery.

Criticisms
- Weak Script: The plot is disjointed and lacks a strong narrative throughline or satisfying climax.
- Slow Pacing: The film's deliberate pacing can feel plodding and boring, particularly for modern audiences.
- Disconnected Subplot: The subplot involving Rod Steiger's character feels disconnected and overly theatrical.

Verdict
The Amityville Horror is a classic but flawed haunted house movie that's more effective as a creepy mood piece than a compelling narrative. Its iconic score and atmosphere are notable, but its slow pace and weak script make it a chore to watch at times.
