The American Society of Magical Negroes
I’m not sure why everyone hates on this film so much. I thought it was a really good watch. It is chock full of social commentary. I had to stop and pause it every fifteen minutes or so to explain some of the nuance in the dialogue to the non-black people I was watching it with.

As an idea, this had major potential. The fever dream feeling for the first 30 mins went hard, so much so that i genuinely thought I was dreaming. The messages and jokes took me out, though, in a bad way. It had some sense in how the 'American Society' works, but it felt way too unrealistic. I guess it hit how race works in most scenarios, but it focused on race entirely, which isn't really the case. I hope I'm making more sense than this movie. The acting was stiff. The dialogue had some potential. All in all, it's the opposite of an escape, but it gives an inside to black/white stereotypes.

The camera angles were horrible. The comedy was mediocre. The music was disjointed in terms of timing and song choice. There was little to no chemistry between the love interest and the MC. The trailer basically cherry picked the good scenes. Do not watch this movie.

I think the concept and the attempt was interesting but more often than not it just dragged and wasn’t interesting. It bounced back towards the end but not quite enough to save it for me.

An absolute boring mess from start to finish. It starts with an almost genius level idea, but quickly decides to ditch that idea and become something entirely different altogether. Overall, it was boring, generic, clumsy, and completely lost. Nothing here to recommend. 1/10

No one will ever make me hate this film. And if you don't understand the movie, you might need to rewatch it. Either that or remove your bias at the door. This was an absolutely phenomenal piece of literature... these are the types of writers I like too see

Even though I usually dislike Justice Smith in like every movie he’s in, he was pretty good in this one. This movie was boring imo up until the final third.

The bland romcom storyline didn’t mesh well at all with the satirical elements of the magical society. I feel like we could have had so much more world building opportunities and fun with this concept. Just felt like it fell flat & should have committed more to the satire.

The American Society of Magical Negroes
The American Society of Magical Negroes isn’t satire—it’s racist toward white people. It paints them as fragile or dangerous, calls them “the most dangerous animal,” and never shows nuance. Not funny, not smart—just divisive. 1/10.
The movie was TRASH!

I think this movie was marketed wrong and gave people the wrong impression that it's a straight up fantasy film, it's kore a romcom with some social commentary fantasy thrown in. it's not perfect but it's interesting and still worth the watch, loved the last scene!

this movie had potential to actually be pretty good, but it had no soul - the message is like pretty good but it backed it up with nothingness

Strong message but, in my opinion, the last scene breaks the hole point of the film. Even though, interesting film

Absolutely beautiful and fun take on how respect for eachother shapes the human race. The acting was amazing and the jokes (while under my breath on a plane) were so unique! Everything aside, my heart ached and tears flowed at the climax. The end is so funny too!
