The 400 Blows

Watched this in a film studies class and have never been more bored watching a movie. I know it’s extremely influential and critically acclaimed but I just couldn’t get through it

The 400 Blows

the amazing coming-of-age film that revolutionized the genre and and paved the way for some of my favorite creators; masterful cinematography, writing and performances make for a tragic and engrossing watch throughout. superb

The 400 Blows

4/5 ⭐️

My film professors mentioned this movie many times, but we never actually watched it in class to analyze it. Today, I finally had the opportunity to see it (and it was surprisingly difficult to find).

This film made me realize that not every person should become a parent, not every teacher should be allowed to teach, and that children deserve a second chance. This movie is considered one of the greatest French films in history.

The story follows a boy named Antoine, who is not loved by his mother, who constantly rejects him, while his stepfather simply tolerates him. Antoine is rebellious, does not care about his studies, and prefers skipping school with his friend, who, like him, receives little attention from his parents.

While watching this film, you can’t help but think about all the situations that could have been prevented if Antoine had received more attention from his parents and had been supported by a better educational system. In the end, his parents decide that the best option is to send him to a reform school.

For the ending, I would have liked to see Antoine changed and returning home, but that is not what happens. Instead, he escapes from the reform school and finally fulfills his dream of seeing the ocean.
