sean baker is fucking great at making films so real and authentic, and the final, man… 10/10

incredibly funny, wildly entertaining, and strangely endearing. a multitude of stories from absurd city-dwelling characters of all walks of life, shot on iphone with off-putting electronic music and absurdly strong cinematography. an early success from genius sean baker

Such a perfect Christmas movie. It was so fun. Not the best start but that’s why I’ve been “watching” it for months. I’m so glad I finished it

Love how personal this film feels. It feels… real, like you’re living in it with these characters. It’s not a hard watch persay but it gives you a lot to this about. Especially if you don’t come from a background where you may have encountered some of these issues.

this movie is genuinely the movie that convinced me to actually go after my passion of writing and directing. i remember being so inspired because i liked the movie but it was also shot entirely on iPhone. i’ve been writing nonstop to this day ever since i saw this 💕

4/10 what was i just watching ?

7.8 - 90ish minutes highly engaging chaos, at its best when it slows down & shows its most human moments. It’s clearly shot on iPhone but it mostly works for the vibe. Script was lacking at times but the chemistry & acting easily made up for it. Crazy - but solid.

It was slow at first, and kinda seemed like cheap filming, but as the movie progressed and you got more involved with the characters drama, it’s sorta captivating to watch. And the end, when all the characters go their separate ways, it shows raw reality and I love that

Can’t believe this was shot on an iPhone, Sean baker does such a good job at immersing you in whatever stories he’s trying to tell

A film where you’re not quite sure what you’re getting into but slowly fall in love with it as it goes. Like most Sean Baker films it’s a subtle comedy that perfectly balances humor and human tenderness. It’s low budget but genius and hilarious.

I feel much the same about this film as I do The Florida Project - a deeply personal story filled with a bunch of entirely unlikeable characters.

I know not every character in a film needs to be liked, but I hated all of them. They’re all utterly obnoxious, as a result leaving the whole film feeling tedious. You can say the same about Anora I suppose, but there it feels far more balanced with likeable moments, and importantly comedy. Comedy which was lacking here in every way, I think it was meant to be - but perhaps it’s just not my humour.

Big fan of the whole aesthetic, being shot on a phone, the colour grading etc. it all looks incredibly unique and stylised. Music choices worked often also which was great. I came to like it toward the end, but everything that came before was too uninviting.

what seemed like a hard watch at first because of the filming quickly became an entertaining but very raw and real story about friendship, love, and struggle. sean baker is the expert at storytelling for people who would otherwise be overlooked.

i wanted to love this so much but it felt choppy and a little unfocused 4/10

This movie atmospherically feels sooooo 2014 omgggg.

Funny stupid and I like how it feels like you’re with them as they are constantly on the move. 6.5/10
