Take Shelter

I saw a lot of people who liked this movie and I don’t get why. Slow burn? It never burned. I just wasted 2 hours of my life for this shit

If someone told you they saw the end of the world, would you believe them? what if that person was family.
i like that this movie touched on mental illness and gave kind of a final destination vibe with the premonitions. Just very long and dragged out tbh.

It's taken me a few days to put meaning to what happens in this. I understand why people wouldn't like it. Jeff Nichols' movies are mostly for people who want to sit, suffer, and think. Just like building an 'Ark', it's incredibly slow but effective. I see two constant themes in this, time and trust. The truth is hidden and only time can tell what it is, but will it be too late? Or a waste of time? Maybe both? Maybe none? I picked up on trust when it became the challenge in most of the relationships. Although it does discuss mental health more explicitly. There's too much to unpack but the acting and emotional depth is unbelievable. Some of Shannon's best.

Michael Shannon puts on another amazing performance. It’s so damning and intense. Shoutout Jessica Chastain for complementing it with her strong motherly performance.
