Supergirl
A kooky Superhero Action bore on an aimless quest to find something entertaining.

This movie is really just boring and not much else.
The villain is kind of pathetic and just not interesting at all.
Helen Slater is the only good part of this movie.
I’m surprised Superman didn’t make a cameo.
My main other problem was scale,
The movie really only takes place in 3 locations: The High school, the abandon amusement park, and the downtown area of the town.
It just gave off small production vibes on a project which should be much bigger.

6/6/26: Surreal ass movie. Camp but also just like literally terrible 😭😭 one of the worst scripts I have ever seen performed with such an insane cast, it feels a lot like The Howling 2: Your Sister is a Werewolf for some reason. Almost like a spiritual successor tbh.
It’s so odd how sexist this movie is, like the team had no faith in a female led superhero picture so Supergirl kinda just frolics for a lot of the movie. Everyone is acting for a different feature it seems; Helen Slater is so sweet and cute and doing a perfect job, Faye Dunaway is doing a performance for a High Camp 50s occult-kitchen-sink-drama, and Brenda Vacarro is just so tired it seems. Weird wild movie. Silly. Long. None of it made any real sense. I hated that Lucy Lane character omg Faye Dunaway should have hit her with her car

Rated: 4.5/10 ⭐️
I went in curious about this 80s spin-off, but the tone threw me. It’s more fantasy fairy tale than Superman adventure, so I had to reset expectations fast.
What Worked:
• Goldsmith’s score – Genuinely heroic and sweeping. It felt bigger than the film and carried scenes for me.
• Helen Slater – She brings real heart to Kara. I bought her sincerity, and she nails the fish-out-of-water bits.
• Cinematography – The practical effects and Argo City mattes look good for 1984. I liked the chunky model sets and storybook widescreens.
What Didn't:
• The Selena subplot really dragged for me. The magic/love-potion stuff felt small and silly.
• Tone is all over the place. Campy, serious, kids’ fantasy – it never gelled for me.
• No Reeve cameo made it feel disconnected. I missed that grounding.
Favorite Line: “Get lost, Supergirl.”

i didn’t actually think it was that bad until the last hour. horrendously cheesy effects and ultra campy performances, even if it’s actually a bit warm and funny at times. also trash writing and action; slater did a fine job

Helen Slater made a fantastic Supergirl, embodying the character’s charm and optimism. While the story and villains were campy, the movie had a fun, adventurous tone. It’s a flawed but enjoyable entry that expanded Superman’s world in a lighter, more fantastical direction.

I'm not 100% sure, but this might be the worst superhero I've seen so far. Everything was atrocious across the board. I'm only giving it 1 star because it was kind of amusing seeing how cringe it got.

I cut it a little slack for it being an 80s film but that could’ve been better…a lot better but there were some redeeming qualities. Especially the suit

Helen Slater is so cute as Supergirl. The villain definitely sucks, the movie would have been better without her in it. That scene in the castle was very kinky. “Leave this place and do no harm”
