Spinal Tap II: The End Continues
Rating: 7.3/10 ⭐️
I expected a pure nostalgia trip, but it hit some surprisingly poignant notes.
What Worked:
Reiner’s dual camera setup gives the improvised blocking room to breathe, making their chemistry feel totally authentic. The musical set pieces are hilarious, especially Elton John in the chaotic stage malfunctions. Seeing David genuinely forgive Nigel deeply resonated with my Methodist faith; a beautiful reflection on extending grace and holding onto community as we age.
The Cuts:
The middle part really dragged for me with the sleazy promoter trying to make them act like a pop boyband. Keeping it spoiler-free, the climax leans too heavily on physical slapstick, giving me total tonal whiplash compared to the original’s dry wit. Also, there are way too many distracting celebrity cameos.
Verdict:
A nostalgic reunion that trips over its modern jokes. Great if you want closure, but skip if you hate slow pacing.
Favorite Line: “Big Bottom is almost literature.”
