Oh man, this messed me up on another level. Such a beautiful comfort movie. Everything about this is comfortable, even the scary things. So creepy yet so cute, so strange yet so wise. The writing was so well done as was the execution. Every time I thought 'it's falling flat', I was proved wrong. It made it more cosy in a way. That as well as the score, all the sounds, all the acting, all the animations and cgis, all the everything. Ugh, I can't get over the wisdom and mystery behind this. Netflix has more misses than hits, but the hits really do hit. It's the best Netflix movie of the year.

I remember seeing the trailer for this and thinking it was weird at the time. I should have trusted my gut. I see all these sheep reviewers saying how ‘profound’ and beautiful this film is - it’s not at all. I am well aware of the analogy and the meaning behind the story, that was not lost on me, but the film is just simply weird and strange. The main issue though, is that it’s just incredibly boring. This film does not grip you. Nothing exciting happens. It’s practically just Adam Sandler for the entire movie, apart from the spider with a stupid mouth. People were also praising Sandler’s performance - yes it was nice to see him not ‘being Adam Sandler’, and I understand exactly why his character was the way he was, but it was such a dull and boring performance that just makes you want to turn the film off. Would not recommend and would not watch again.
